VANDALS targeted two cars on the same night in Duloch as a driving instructor had his car back window smashed.

The unrelated incidents occurred at Arniston Road and Braemar Gardens in Duloch last Tuesday evening between 11pm and 6.30am.

A driving instructor was forced to fork out to have his rear window fixed, before the troublemakers struck once again, this time targeting a teenager’s car.

Daniel Smith, 17, was left devastated when he awoke to find his first car had its front window smashed on Tuesday night as well.

He told the Press: “For me, a 17-year-old, to have his car window smashed by what seems a random act of violence is a terrible thing to happen before Christmas.

"I have two jobs and I’m still at school, working my socks off to ensure there is a car on my drive. And to have that privilege almost ripped away from you is sickening.”

Daniel’s mum Catherine has been trying to work out why her son’s car was hit.

She said: “It’s just absolutely awful what has happened. We didn’t hear anything at all. Daniel’s window is above the drive but he doesn’t recall hearing anything.

"Nothing like this has happened round here that I’m aware of. The car was just parked in the drive and it’s not as if it’s a brand new car, it’s quite an old model. There’s some new ones in the area that haven’t been touched. It’s completely random.

“You just wonder who could have done something like this. I had asked Daniel if anything had happened recently to provoke it or if he had argued with anyone but he couldn’t think of anything. It’s his first car, so it’s obviously his pride and joy.

“At this time of year, it’s remarkable to think somebody could be so callous to damage someone’s car. They say it’s the season of goodwill. I’m not so sure, to be honest with you.”

A Fife police spokesperson said: “Crimes like this are hard to detect. People would have been in their beds at the time of the act and unless any witnesses saw what happened, it’s very difficult. Vandalism like this in West Fife is an ongoing issue and an investigation into this incident is ongoing.”
