Fife Trading Standards are warning consumers to be aware of fake cosmetics that could contain urine.

Designed to look like popular top-name brands, they aim to trick shoppers into buying what seems like a bargain.

Buyers could be at risk as some of these fakes are downright dangerous.

Counterfeit cosmetics have been found to contain known cancer-causing chemicals such as arsenic, beryllium and cadmium.

They may also be infected with bacteria and contain high levels of normally non-dangerous metals like aluminium.

Fake perfume and aftershave can contain urine and has been known to cause serious skin rashes.

Shoppers should look out for bargain prices as products that are largely discounted are highly suspect.

Potentially dangerous fakes can appear to come from the Far East and are sold at markets.
