A DUNFERMLINE cyclist has complained about road conditions in Duloch after having been sent flying off his bike twice in two months.

Colin Cossar narrowly avoided being struck by the car behind him at the roundabout on of Dunlin Drive, close to Fife Leisure Park.

He was left with cuts and bruises but his bike suffered damage worth £215 and he thinks the poor state of the road has been caused by the local housing development at Calais Muir, with Bellway Homes one of the main developers on site.

He told the Press: "Fortunately, the car travelling round the roundabout at the time stopped to check if I was okay and only my bike was badly damaged. On closer inspection, I noticed a thin layer of silt on the road surface which makes the road surface extremely slippery when wet."

Colin questioned why Dunlin Drive was so poorly kept in comparison to other roads with development sites nearby.

He added: "When I originally spoke to the council they were aware of the issue, yet why is the road such a mess? There isn't the same amount of debris, dirt and grime around other developments in Dunfermline so why this one? Having spoken to other cyclists and motorists, I know I am not alone in my concerns.

"If the problem is not addressed I believed it is only a matter of time before a serious accident occurs. I would like to think that developers would put public safety ahead of private profit."

He spoke to Bellway Homes regarding the issue but they were not available for comment when asked to respond by the Press.

Fife Council say the road will be inspected soon.

Ian Jones, roads network management, said: “We understand the mud is being dragged out from two development sites in the area. We have arranged for the road to be inspected and to meet with the developers to address any issues.”
