TAYLOR Wimpey has received detailed planning consent from Fife Council to build 59 homes in Kingseat.

Councillors approved the proposals last summer but a legal agreement and conditions have now been agreed for the 3.1 hectare site.

The firm will build 45 three-, four- and five-bedroom houses and 14 affordable homes on land bordered by the B912 and Kingseat Road.

Work is set to start in the Spring and Pauline Mills, land and planning director for Taylor Wimpey East Scotland, said: “This consent will allow us to bring forward a development that offers buyers a great choice of new homes, and it also marks our ongoing commitment, investment and strong track record of delivering excellent quality developments of family homes in Fife, and in particular our existing and popular developments in Dunfermline at Masterton Gate and Wallace Grange.”

The legal agreement includes Taylor Wimpey paying £81,000 as a strategic transport contribution, £25,000 for education, and £45,000 for a play park.

The firm said the development will support around 40 jobs per year during construction and local businesses stand to benefit from new customers.

There were more than 200 objections to the site being included in FIFEplan, which states what can be built and where, and Fife Council admitted Taylor Wimpey's proposals were "contrary to the principal land use policy of the adopted local plan".

But their report added: "There is however a shortfall in the five-year effective housing land supply within this housing market area."

There were also concerns the housing plans would lead to more traffic in the village, adding to congestion and increasing the risk of road accidents.

Kingseat Community Council chair Dr Forbes Stuart had added: “There are no facilities in Kingseat, just a post office, a shop, a fairly inadequate community centre.

“We no longer have a bowling club; the bus service is not great but it’s adequate. There are very few amenities and we have all these people coming in."
