IT DOESN’T take a detective to work out that The Sherlocks are hot commodities right now.

The Sheffield four-piece will hit PJ Molloys tomorrow (Saturday) as they set their sights on another year of success with a tour starting on February 1 and concluding on March 15.

2016 was a year to remember for the indie outfit as they were signed to record label Infectious Music, a goal they had been working towards since their formation.

Fronted by Kiaran Crook, with his brother, Brandon, on drums, and fellow brothers Andy and Josh Davidson on bass and lead guitar, respectively, they are riding on a wave following their signing with the indie record label.

Kiaran, 21, told Press:ON: “We wanted to get the foundations right. We wanted to sign for a passionate label that cares for us as much as we do and didn’t just see it from a business point of view. I think we’ve landed with the perfect label.

“The best thing about them is that they trust us. They trust that we know our fans and our music better than anyone. They get that. They enhance what we’re doing and let us do what we want. Even when it comes to artwork, and picking the next single, they leave it up to us. It gives us so much confidence.”

They signed the papers for the deal in August and held off the announcement until late December to provide a wee kick of momentum to carry through into the New Year. It’s not as though that momentum was badly needed, however.

After their first single release in 2014, they have had their music broadcast on BBC Radio 1 and played at the Reading Festival in 2015, before being invited back the following year. And if great reviews locally weren’t enough, they have enjoyed live praise overseas.

The boys were left stunned as they were welcomed to America by eager fans who have followed the band playing out of tiny garages in Sheffield to across the pond in Austin, Texas, for the South by Southwest festival (SXSW) after an invite from BBC Introducing.

A reflective Kiaran commented on the band’s beginnings and where they are now.

He said: “We were messing about on guitars and drums, it was nothing serious. We were just having a laugh at my house in the conservatory and then having band sessions in my nan’s garage, just so we could have something to do.

“To say we’ve gone from garages to Reading Festival and selling out tents, and over to America is just insane.

“We had never been to America as a band, and three the gig waiting for us and who know each band member. It was just so surreal. It’s mad. At times you don’t actually realise how much we mean to people outside our group circle.”

Not keen to keep the past alongside them, the forwardthinking foursome are always looking to what the future holds as they adjust their material to their rise.

He added: “I think we all just focus on what’s ahead. We don’t dwell on what we’ve done. That’d drive you nuts. We are constantly looking at what we’re doing next. We’ll smash one tour and then look at what we’re going to do from there. The plan changes constantly so you go with whatever feels right.

“I think as a songwriter I’ve learned how to write music better. You learn what sounds good. You start to find your own sound. We’re always aiming for a big sound and as we step up in venues, we want the sound to go with it.”

They have built a loyal fanbase along the way and they have them to thank for propelling them to number one in the Official Vinyl Singles Chart for their single, ‘Will You Be There?’.

“We put 200 signed vinyls online and they sold out within an hour,” he laughs. “We were so shocked by that. We put another 200 on and that went in seven minutes! We could probably put another 200 on and they’d go even quicker. It’s crazy for a single and it just shows how much support we have. It shocks us every time. When we heard how quick they were sold we thought it was a joke.”

The tour makes its way to Dunfermline for a gig the boys are eager to play.

“We can’t wait for it. We’re all buzzing for this one as it will be our first time in Dunfermline. It should be a good one.”
