POLICE were called to Dunfermline High School after reports that Woodmill pupils armed with screwdrivers and knives were looking for a fight.

Officers had previously warned of trouble between the two schools and nine girls from S2 at Woodmill arrived at lunchtime on Tuesday and three “ran wild” and got inside the building.

Dunfermline police had warned of trouble between the schools and sent out a tweet on Friday that read: “We have heard about potential issues between Dunfermline and Woodmill HS pupils this weekend # don’t get involved.”

A parent told the Press: “They turned up at lunchtime with screwdrivers and knives, seemingly to complete a fight from the weekend.

"The teachers and the head were out to deal with the situation and get the DHS kids in safe.”

The woman, who asked not to be named, said her daughter had witnessed the incident and added: “My daughter saw someone brandishing a knife above their head. She was really scared. The school should have let parents know.”

Glyn Beech, the head of the parent council at Dunfermline High, put out a message on Facebook for parents yesterday (Wednesday).

It said: “I’ve just spoken with the rector and the official story is that nine S2 girls from Woodmill arrived at Dunfermline High at lunchtime (on Tuesday).

“Twenty school staff were outside to try and prevent any trouble but just before the bell went three girls ran wild into the school. They were eventually escorted off the premises by staff and police.

“The story of them bringing weapons is not confirmed although the rector had also heard this. The police will be on the school grounds again today in case there is any more trouble.”

He added: “The rector has promised me a call if there is any repeat and he is also planning on putting out a letter today with all the pupils to let parents know what happened and to try and calm any concerns parents may have.

“Hopefully, between the efforts of DHS staff, WHS staff, the police and parents of the pupils involved, there will be no repeat.”

No-one at Dunfermline police station was available for comment. A spokeswoman from Police Scotland’s media office in Edinburgh said officers were called at 1.40pm about a suspected disturbance at the school.

Shelagh McLean , Education head of service, said: “Following reports of a potential confrontation between pupils from local schools in Dunfermline, school staff investigated concerns raised around Dunfermline High School at lunchtime yesterday and the police were in attendance in the area.

"There were large numbers of Dunfermline High School pupils in the area at lunchtime but all pupils followed staff instructions to disperse. There were no fights and no weapons discovered. A very small number of pupils who refused to disperse were dealt with by police and school staff.

“We do not anticipate further issues but have asked for support from the police again today.

“Parents/carers have been asked for support in re-stating the importance of following instructions to stay away from any big groups and to make sure that they know where their children are.”
