WITNESSES have described a group of up to 60 drunken teenagers rampaging through Dunfermline town centre on Friday evening, urinating on poppy wreaths at the war memorial and treating cars "as trampolines".

One man who says his car was written off because of the damage took to social media in desperation after describing the "blind drunk" gang of 13- to 15-year-olds smashing bottles and "causing mayhem" around the bus station and surrounding area.

The man said the trouble started at around 6pm on Friday and wrote: "A large group of youths were making their way through Dunfermline to meet in the town centre.

"On the way, they decided to use several cars as trampolines, writing off my car in the process.

"I gave chase and caught up with three 13-year-olds who had split from the main group.

"They were urinating on the war memorial and smashing bottles. One of the youths ran towards me laughing and shouting.

"I didn't know what to do apart restrain myself from giving all three of them an absolute hiding.

"I had to keep giving chase in to the town centre towards the bus station where there were at least 50 to 60 youths from 13-years-old to 15-years- old, blind drunk. Causing mayhem around the bus station and surrounding areas.

"A group started to fight, with one lad who is 13-years-old (I know because he told me) kicking and stamping on another boy's head.

"The police have admitted it is out of control and they need support from Glasgow. They are very limited by law to what they can do apart from moving the group on to another place.

"Whilst I was being interviewed, the police had to rush off to another serious assault taking place by youths. They have admitted to me it is only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or worse.

"The kids finish school around three o'clock and are blind drunk by six. They are using vulnerable people to buy the drink for them. They are assaulting and happy-slapping passers-by.

"Ask yourself if you are slightly bothered. Have your kids come home hammered? Do you know where they are? Are you aware of what is going on in the town?

"If your kids can give you any information on this please contact Dunfermline police and provide names as the police can't even show me a photograph of them (because of law restrictions).

"The good news is some of the culprits have been identified and you will be caught.

"I have contacted all newspapers, MPs, councillors and schools to make them aware. I also contacted Poppy Scotland. Will be interesting to see their thoughts.

"LOCAL GOVERNMENT. GIVE THE POLICE MORE RESOURCE AND SUPPORT.

"I am not interested in keyboard warriors giving me a hammering on here. I don't do social media. I have set this up purely to raise awareness.

"Please pass on and spread the word and help get something done about this."

In his regular Press column, Dunfermline Community Sergeant Neil McGurk has repeatedly written about the work officers are trying to do in relation to issues in Dunfermline town centre relating to youth disorder.

In last Thursday's Press, ahead of this latest incident, Community Sergeant Neil McGurk wrote: "Operation Caber has been ongoing and continues to try to tackle the problems. We are continuing to issue letters to parents when their child has been found in large groups; the number of letters is growing fast with around 150 now being issued.

"A 14-year-old has now been issued with seven letters and is still being found out in large groups causing a nuisance.

"The parents have been visited and spoken to, along with a number of other parents in relation to their child’s behaviour.

"There is some progress and some parents who are trying hard.

"There is no place for these people who are not only causing a nuisance to the public but are endangering the lives of your children.

"Two people were also identified as buying alcohol for underage youths; unbelievably one of them was the mother of a 15-year-old girl who handed the alcohol to her daughter in the street!

"This was witnessed by the security staff and she has subsequently been charged with the offence. What chance do the police have if parents are taking this irresponsible attitude?

"I am beginning to feel like a stuck record, however, I will continue to bore everybody with this until we make a difference and people finally get the picture.

"Operation Caber will again be deployed this weekend.

"Hopefully, this will help reassure the public and clampdown on any anti-social behaviour and offending which may take place.

"Should anybody commit a criminal act; regardless of age, they will be taken into custody.
