A SPRINKLE of excitement is set to hit Dunfermline with news that a new ice cream parlour is due to open next month.

Scoopz Fife is opening at premises on Hospital Hill and will offer a range of ice creams, sweets, milkshakes and other goodies.

Joint owner Kashy Afzal already runs a similar eatery in Edinburgh’s Southside and believes the new place will offer something new to West Fife.

“The issue with Dunfermline is there’s a lot of houses but not a lot to do,” he said.

“Places like McDonalds in the town centre are closing down so there is less and less to do so we saw the potential to open a store.

“Down to the size of the premises, we are not making it a full, sit-in ice cream parlour.

"There will also be a massive range of sweets – about 100 different ones to choose from. We will have Italian ice cream and there will be bespoke flavours like Nutella and salted caramel.

“Typically, we will probably have a range of about 60 flavours to choose from but we are limited to what we have space for so will have around 16 on display so it is quite a range.”

Customers will also be able to have their own milkshakes with their choice of chocolate bar and ice cream while crepes, waffles, hot sundaes and cookie dough and cakes will also be available.

Around five jobs are likely to be created at the new Scoopz and Kashy said the social media response had been promising with its new Facebook page attracting 500 likes within 24 hours.

“There is genuinely a lot of hype,” he said. “We have had a few comments from people saying they won’t have to go to Kirkcaldy or Edinburgh anymore. People travel for this kind of thing. It is something that is different to the normal.”

A refurbishment of the shop, which used to house a cash for clothes branch, is currently taking place and Kashy said they hoped to open officially early in April.
