FOR Dunfermline woman Abi Evans, a national wedding award is the icing on the cake of her baking business.

There are no soggy bottoms for Abi, owner of dediCAKEd on Canmore Street, after she pipped other top cake designers to the post from across south-east Scotland.

Abi told Press Business: “I baked a bit with my mum when I was little but it only became a hobby when I turned 20.

"Before I began the business I worked in retail. It’s hard work but really rewarding.

“I was quite surprised on the night of the awards, I was hopeful for a win but it was still a shock. It’s the first award I’ve won.”

The Scottish Wedding Awards were held in Glasgow and celebrate those who work towards creating the perfect day for the bride and groom.

Customers get to vote on their favourite businesses and a panel of experts make the final decision.

Abi continued: “I’ve had my cake business for more than five years but I couldn’t pick my favourite wedding cake!

"I made a Game of Thrones-themed one that was probably my biggest challenge yet. It was really intricate but I love it when things are a bit different.

“I’m hoping to employ a couple of people in the next year because I can’t do any more work.

“If people like a challenge then I would encourage others to start their own baking business. It’s not easy but it’s certainly rewarding.

“I wouldn’t want to do anything else now!”
