A BRAND NEW Toddler Sense programme centre could be making its way to Dunfermline if a planning application to Fife Council is approved.

Toddler Sense is a multi-award-winning, UK-wide child development programme for children aged 13 months to five-years-old and is hoping to establish a permanent base in Dunfermline at Dewar House on Enterprise Way to replace business offices.

The programme has been developed by Dr Lin Day, who is one of the UK’s leading parenting experts, and follows on from the hugely successfully Baby Sensory development programme.

Should the application be approved, the centre could be open and ready for use by the end of May.

Katie Ghilotti, franchisee of Toddler Sense for West Fife, said: “In Scotland, one in 25 newborns enrols in a Baby Sensory class.

"There are already a number of popular classes running across Fife, including in Dunfermline.

"Parents of children who have graduated from the Baby Sensory programme have been calling for Toddler Sense classes in Fife for a number of years.
“News of its launch was met with a very warm welcome, with my Facebook page (ToddlerSenseFife) receiving over 100 likes in one day and numerous positive engagements and booking requests.

"Presently, the nearest Toddler Sense classes are in Dundee and Glasgow, and so since announcing that classes will be running in Fife I have had expressions of interest from as far afield as Stirling and Edinburgh from mums willing to travel to Fife for classes.”

The adventure play programme sessions last up to one hour and are designed to stimulate the senses and help with child development on a personal and social level.

The one-hour session is divided into two balanced phases, beginning with exploratory playtime.

Soft play pieces, inflatables and gym equipment are laid out like an obstacle course on soft matting in a different formation each week, leading to children being encouraged to explore with their parents.

This encourages physical activity and provides an opportunity for parents to socialise with other adults.

This is then followed by 30 to 40 minutes of themed, class leader-led activities and music together as a group.

Katie added: “The programme has been designed to nurture children’s core brain development, helping them to fully benefit from all future education.

"It is an inclusive programme and children with sensory impairments will also naturally respond to the light shows, music, adventure tunnels and specially-designed soft play equipment.

“Classes also provide an opportunity for parents to socialise with other parents, share knowledge and build vital support networks and friendships.

“In creating a permanent venue for Toddler Sense classes in Dunfermline I would be championing play and creating more high-quality opportunities for play in my community.”
