DUNFERMLINE star Barbara Dickson OBE returned to her roots on Monday when she was treated to a sneak preview of the new Carnegie Library and Galleries.

Just five weeks before the facility is due to open to the public, the multi-award winning singer was able to check out her photo in the museum's 'Wall of Famous Faces' which also includes Queen Margaret, Andrew Carnegie and Fife Council Provost Jim Leishman.

In addition, Barbara is featured in a film in the entrance gateway display and in a music video in the cinema seats set within the museum itself.

She was born in Dunfermline and attended Woodmill High School before she left for Edinburgh at the age of 17, to work in an office during the day and sing her heart out at the folk music sessions around town at night.

In 1976 Barbara enjoyed her first UK hit with the single ‘Answer Me’ and her 1986 duet with Elaine Paige, ‘I Know Him So Well’ from the musical Chess, reached number one in the UK singles chart, selling over 900,000 copies.

It is the biggest ever selling single in the UK by a female duo.

Lesley Botten, Display, Design & Activities Curator for the new museum, said she was delighted to welcome Barbara to her "home town museum which features the enormous contribution she’s made to the music world".

She added: "I’m also delighted that her cousin and oral history volunteer, David Simpson, recorded Barbara’s memories of growing up in Dunfermline for us."

Dunfermline Carnegie Library & Galleries hopes to attract up to 280,000 visitors each year and contribute an annual visitor spend of around £500,000 to the local economy.
