A FIRM of Dunfermline solicitors looks to be on the move after a planning application was submitted to Fife Council.

W & AS Bruce has applied to change the use of The Pine Cabin premises in St Margaret Street from retail space into a solicitor's office.

Partner Charles Campbell said they hoped to move from their current base in Chalmers Street to the new flagship office as part of on-going expansion plans.

"We decided to buy that because we are expanding and that is going to be our new head office as our existing premises are not big enough," he explained.

"We identified that building in the heritage quarter and it is one of buildings at risk in Dunfermline so we decided to buy it and give it a new lease of life.

"Currently we have got offices in Dundee, Broxburn, Kirkcaldy and Burntisland and this will be our new head office.

"Just now we have 14 solicitors based in the different offices but we are hoping, by the end of next year, to have 20 solicitors working in the various offices."

Mr Campbell said they were looking forward to being able to enjoy the surroundings of the heritage quarter.

"We had an arson attack last year and it raised a few issues around this part of town and we decided we would like to go to a quieter part of town and give that building a new lease of life," he added.

"There's adequate parking and it is one of the main routes into the town so it will give us a higher profile."
