PENSIONERS in Baldridgeburn say they have been “terrorised” by several new neighbours that have moved in to their street.

David Millar Place mainly houses elderly residents in council bungalows but in recent years they say a number of younger residents have been moved into properties causing problems for neighbours.

Resident Robert Manderson, 79, told the Press: “It’s a beautiful place but I’ve had enough. I want to go and live in Malta to get away from it all but my wife is worried about leaving our family.

“One property has had to be fumigated twice because of the state of the place. We’ve had our gardens raided for things and lights have disappeared.

“We’ve also had to call out the police a couple of times because one resident has his music blasting until 4.30am. My neighbour who is 85 has now put a six-foot fence up just to try and keep them out of her property. She’s absolutely terrified of them.”

Neighbours at David Millar Place told the Press that those who are causing problems were moved into the area after a couple of properties became vacant.

They believe that the residents causing problems are suffering from mental health difficulties but live independently with carers coming to attend a few times a day.

Mr Manderson continued: “I don’t think they should be living here and need more help. I can’t understand why the authorities have placed them here.

"They have been terrorising us and as elderly people it’s terrifying.

“I’m suffering from a tumour on my spine and am supported by crutches so I just want some quiet. It’s just getting beyond the joke. If my wife would come I’d be in Malta instead in a heartbeat.”

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police in Dunfermline have attended at David Millar Place three times during April after reports of noise from one of the properties.

“Appropriate advice was given to the resident and officers are liaising with Fife Council about the issue.”

Mhairi Mullen, housing manager, said: “The housing service allocates properties in accordance with Fife Council’s allocations policy, based on housing need.

"All council tenants have responsibilities in terms of their tenancy agreement and failure to comply can lead to a breach of tenancy action being taken.

“We work closely with other services, and our community safety partners, to address issues relating to anti-social behaviour in order to support our communities.

“We are aware of an issue within the David Millar Place area and we are currently investigating this.”
