PLAY time will get a whole lot better in Dunfermline with the go-ahead for a brand new facility in Public Park.

Fife Council allocated £228,592 for a play park in March and a planning application has now been approved.

It will go at the top of the path that leads to St Margaret's and Commercial primary schools, and east of the Louise Carnegie Bandstand, and include a sensory area, safety surfacing, paths, three picnic tables and landscaping.

A report from the council's Bryan Reid said: "The play equipment proposed includes an adventure trail, climbing frames, swings, see-saws, slides and several other smaller items.

"A range of safety surfacing materials are proposed, such as wet pour and grass matting.

"The proposal also seeks to install a spiral shaped path through the site which would lead to a viewpoint area atop a small mount within the site."

Central Dunfermline Community Council have been working with the council on the Public Park project and the work is set to be completed in two phases.

The park used to have two play areas but one was removed on safety grounds and the other will be taken down soon.

Mr Reid's report added: "The proposed works would potentially increase the number of visitors to the park, particularly young children, however, in terms of potential loss of privacy, noise impact and other amenity issues; the proposal is not considered to raise any issues."

There'll be swings and roundabouts in other areas of Dunfermline too with £500,000 allocated for a number of projects.

The City of Dunfermline area committee will give £150,176 for Touch play areas, £126,232 for Wellwood, £60,000 for Rex Park, £55,000 for Lyneburn Park, £40,000 for Bull Park and £20,000 each for outdoor gyms in Abbeyview and Duloch Park.
