DUNFERMLINE and West Fife MP Douglas Chapman's office was evacuated this afternoon after the delivery of a suspicious package.

His office, on Douglas Street, was cleared this afternoon, and the street was cordoned off by the police as a result.

Police Scotland have now confirmed that the package "poses no risk".

A spokesperson said: "Police in Fife were called to a premises on Douglas Street in Dunfermline around 1.50pm on Thursday 4 May following a report of a suspicious package being delivered.

"The building and surrounding premises were evacuated as a precaution and a cordon was put in place to ensure the safety of the public.

"Enquiries have now traced the sender and it has been established that the item poses no risk. The public are thanked for their patience and cooperation during this time."

Douglas Chapman praised the police for their efforts in handling the issue.

He said: "A suspicious package was dealt with by Police Scotland and the situation has now been resolved.

"My staff and the tenants who share the building with us were my first concern.

"Thanks to Police Scotland for their swift response and their reassuring manner in dealing with the situation."
