QUEEN ANNE HIGH SCHOOL pupils are counting on the generous support of Dunfermline to help them fundraise for a life-changing trip to Kenya next summer.

The school has joined up with Camps International to go on a month-long expedition to deliver projects helping some of the poorest communities in the country.

However, to go on the trip, the 15 pupils have to raise £3,690 each.

Tracey Frain, volunteer and parents co-ordinator, said: “I’m glad that the kids have to fundraise the money themselves because they will appreciate the experience all the more knowing that they worked hard to get there.”

The social enterprise will enable the young people to make a positive impact on the lives of others in the developing world by helping solve the root causes of problems such as poverty, malnutrition and poor education facilities.

While living in a rural district, Queen Anne pupils will be learning new skills to build confidence, leadership and self-reliance that will help them later in life.

Katie Fisher, 15, said: “I’d like to go to Kenya as I think it’ll be a life-changing experience, meeting new people and exploring new cultures. I hope to be able to help the local children we meet by building homes and schools for them as well as providing them with safe drinking water.”

Niamh Magee, S4 pupil, said: “I have alway wanted to visit Africa and see its native animals up close in their natural habitat.

"I am looking forward to exploring a new culture and helping people who are less fortunate than myself. I really can’t wait!”

Tracey Frain will be organising a family fun night to raise funds in September.

The students are asking local businesses to donate prizes to the event. If you can help, contact Tracey on 07707651828.
