A DOG-WALKER has been left disgusted after seeing what he believes to be human faeces in children’s play equipment at Pittencrieff Park last weekend.

James Bell spotted it in a spinning bowl while walking his dog on Saturday morning.

He told the Press: “When I saw what was lying in the kids’ play area I was completely disgusted, it made me feel sick. Nobody could go in there for the rest on the long weekend.

“I just don’t understand why they’re treating the place like that, the park is there for their benefit.

“I know what dog poo looks like and that wasn’t it! It looked quite fresh. There was a coke can that had been left there too that had been used to try and scrape it off.”

The faeces wasn’t the only mess that has been left – a metal bin had also been pushed over, there was a broken wooden fence and supermarket trolley left in the middle of the play area.

The 40-year-old added: “There’s been better weather in the past month so lots of teenagers have been coming at the weekends to drink.

“The next day the place is always a mess, with crisps packets and bottles all over the place most weekends.

“I knew that there had been youths there on the Friday night because of the noise coming from the park. I think there was about 15 of them there.

"It certainly puts me off walking the dog around the Glen when they’re coming back and forth all at time.”

Fife Council confirmed to the Press that the mess was cleaned up on Tuesday.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police in Dunfermline are aware of recent incidents of anti-social behaviour in Pittencrieff Park and will be carrying out additional patrols to tackle the issue.

“Anyone with information that can assist officers with their inquiries is asked to contact Dunfermline police station on 101.”

Harry Dunn, chairman of Friends of Pittencrieff Park, said: “It has been reported to us that the kids’ playpark has been damaged and excrement has been spread there.

“I find it very disappointing and utterly disgusting. The staff are doing their best to keep the park nice and all we can do is continue to monitor the situation and report it to the police.

“It’s particularly disgusting that the faeces has been left in the kids’ play area.”
