A NEWLY-REFURBISHED Dunfermline ambulance station will be opening in Pitreavie Business Park by the end of June.

The Scottish Ambulance Service will be relocating from its current base at Keir Hardie Terrace to a site at 1 Pitreavie Way.

The Press reported last summer that the emergency service had applied for permission to convert part of an industrial unit into a single-storey ambulance station.

NHS bosses decided to move after their current premises were deemed no longer fit for purpose and the new base offers improved access routes via Queensferry Road rather than ambulance activity taking place in residential streets.

Management also believe that response times to emergency calls will be improved greatly through the relocation.

The unit had been vacant for some time before the ambulance service showed an interest and the new site will also be near Dunfermline Fire Station.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "The new facility in Dunfermline is part of our strategy to upgrade ambulance stations to better meet the needs of our staff and patients.

"The station is well positioned to serve the local community and provides excellent facilities for staff.

"We expect the station to be operational by the end of June."
