KIND-HEARTED Rainbows brought a little extra colour to a children's charity after learning about Dunfermline's most famous son.

The girls from the 1st Dunfermline group, who meet every Friday at St Leonard's Church, sold sunflowers and raised £350 for Cash for Kids.

Lynn Dorman, who runs the unit, explained: "Recently the rainbows have been doing a badge called the Dunfermline Challenge badge, learning lots of things about kings and queens, sport and famous people.

"We were learning all about Andrew Carnegie and how he gave his money to others.

"The rainbows decided they would like to raise money and give it to others like Andrew Carnegie did.

"So they made bespoke sunflower pots and planted sunflower seeds in them.

"We sold them to the family and friends of the rainbows, the brownie group as well as members of the church.

"We asked for a minimum donation of 50p, sold 250 pots and raised £350 for Cash for Kids."

On Friday, Ian Robertson, the charity's corporate fundraising manager, came along to accept the cheque and thank the girls.

He added that the money would be spent on clothes, food, toys, equipment for youngsters who are disabled, disadvantaged or suffering from abuse or neglect.
