A DUNFERMLINE teenager knocked out the front teeth of a stranger who refused to let him back in a club.

Alexander McNair cost his victim £6,000 in dental work, according to the Crown, but defence agent Russel McPhate disputed the high cost.

McNair, 19, of Bennachie Way, previously admitted that on November 12, 2016, at Kirkgate, Dunfermline, he assaulted a man by punching him in the face to his injury.

Depute fiscal Jade Doig told Dunfermline Sheriff Court that McNair was not known to his victim, but both of the parties had been out separately at a night club in Dunfermline.

"Some sort of disagreement had taken place between some other males at around 1.10am," she said.

"The victim was standing at the front door trying to act as a peace maker. He had seen the accused and thought that there was going to be an accident, so he placed his hands on McNair's chest.

"McNair then punched him in the mouth and ran off. CCTV operators had seen the incident and told police to attend.

"The victim then identified McNair to them. His injuries resulted in losing his two bottom front teeth."

Mr McPhate said: "There had been some sort of incident with friends but that did not involve him. Mr McNair then tried to get back into the club but the complainer put his hands out to stop him and Mr McNair punched him.

"The complainer then followed him and identified Mr McNair to the police.

"My client has no recollection of the event, this is his first conviction and he has since distanced himself from the people that were involved.

"I know that dental treatment is expensive but £3,000 per tooth seems very high and I am sceptical that the NHS would charge that much."

Sheriff Derek Reekie deferred sentence for two weeks for further reports and to allow time for the defence to enquire how much the dental treatment would cost.
