AN AFTERNOON of fun was on offer for those who popped into Pittencrieff Park last Wednesday.
Thousands of families attended Fife's Play Day event which incorporated a range of activities including sports, arts and crafts and messy play.
Organised by Fife Council's Education and Children's services, Early Years Learning Officer Jane Mason said the afternoon was aimed at encouraging families to take time to play.
“Play is an important part of childhood and has a number of physical and mental health benefits for children," she said. “As well as developing and encouraging self-esteem and confidence, play improves thinking skills and negotiation, develops social and communication skills and enhances creativity.”
The afternoon of fun was opened by Provost Jim Leishman. “It was great to see all the kids out in the park taking part in the fun," he added. “Thankfully, the weather didn’t damp spirits and everyone seemed to have an amazing time.”
