THE Chinese State Circus set to be held in Dunfermline next week has been cancelled due to heavy rainfall.

The announcement comes just days after the Inverkeithing Highland Games was also called off for the same reason.

The waterlogged ground at Duloch Park has forced organisers to cancel the five day run of the popular circus show, with local wildlife taking full advantage of the conditions.

A spokesperson for Chinese State Circus said: "Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances with the ground, we will be cancelling our Dunfermline shows.

"Duloch Park - the ground we had booked - has become waterlogged to the point where ducks are swimming on it! It will not be possible or safe for us to set up the show under the circumstances.

"We approached the council for assistance to secure a replacement ground in Dunfermline, and we have tried our utmost to ensure the shows still go ahead, but we were unsuccessful given the short notice.

"We apologise for any inconvenience or disappointment this has caused."

Their Stirling show has been extended by two days at Kings Park from Tuesday 8 to Tuesday, August 15.

Tickets bought for the Dunfermline show will be honoured in Stirling.

Those who have purchased tickets and are not able to attend in Stirling, are urged to contact their ticket provider for a refund.
