A DRUNK targeted a store in Dunfermline town centre for vandalism, after being “egged on” by a friend.

The senseless actions of James O’Hanlon, who took a fire extinguisher from the James Bank Hostel, and threw it at the window of Tesco, have landed him back behind bars.

O’Hanlon, 31, of James Street, Dunfermline, appeared from custody on Tuesday at the town’s sheriff court.

He admitted that on Sunday, at Tesco stores, Winterthur Lane, he threw a fire extinguisher at a window, causing damage.

Depute fiscal Dev Kapadia said: “The incident took place at 10.15pm and there had been pre-planning involved.

“The accused was drinking with a friend during the day. They were each egging on the other to damage the window.

“The accused took a fire extinguisher from the James Bank Hostel, went along the street to Tesco and damaged the window.”

The court heard that O’Hanlon had only recently been placed on a drug treatment and testing order. He was also given early release from a previous jail term.

Defence solicitor Stephen Morrison said: “Mr O’Hanlon has heroin misuse difficulties but also abuses alcohol to a massive extent.”

Sheriff Charles MacNair deferred sentence until September 22 and O’Hanlon was remanded in custody.
