A MAN who stole booze and razor blades from Asda Halbeath was warned by a sheriff this week.

Matthew O'Brien, 25, was in the dock at Dunfermline Sheriff Court on Wednesday after earlier admitting that on August 17, he stole the items while he was already on bail.

Depute fiscal Joanne Smith said he had gone to the self-service checkout and paid for a small can of juice before attempting to leave the store.

He was stopped and alcohol worth £272.50, which had been wrapped in tin foil, and razors were found in his bag.

Solicitor Alexander Flett said the offence was drug-related.

His client, of Tyree Place, Kirkcaldy, had been misusing drugs since the age of 13 as a result of matters which dated back to his early childhood.

Sheriff Charles Macnair deferred sentence for O'Brien to be of good behaviour for three months to allow him to take part in a drug testing and treatment order.

"The DTTO is not some kind of get-out-of-jail free card," he warned him. "If people offend during DTTO orders, they can expect to be sentenced. If you come back before the court in three months having offended again, then your prospect of a further period of liberty are very remote."
