A SPECIAL edition ale named after Brian Headrick, who died last year, will be unveiled at next month’s Dunfermline Beer Festival.

It’s being brewed by sponsors Broughton Brewery to honour the “local legend”, a former chair of Dunfermline Round Table, who lost his battle with cancer.

He played a big part in the beer festival, he even drummed for one of the bands, and glasses of ‘Brian’s Honky Tonk Ale’ will be raised in his memory at the Glen Pavilion.

Dominic Collings, of Dunfermline Round Table, said: “Despite being ill, I saw Brian at last year’s beer festival and I’m told by his wife, Janis, that this was his last outing, passing away only a month or so later.

“When Broughton Brewery asked us to name a beer for this year’s festival, naming one in honour of him seemed like a great and fitting idea.

“After much debate we are therefore delighted to announce ‘Brian’s Honky Tonk Ale’.

“Broughton describe it as a ‘full-bodied, hoppy and floral, golden ale, brewed especially for the festival’ and we’re sure it’ll do Brian’s memory proud.”

Dunfermline Beer Festival is in its 13th year and is organised by Dunfermline Rugby Club and Dunfermline Round Table and backed by the Press as media sponsors.

The proceeds are split between the rugby club’s youth section and the Round Table, who distribute their share to charities and good causes at a Dragon’s Den-style event every March.

Dominic said that Brian was a well-known figure in Dunfermline and the special edition Scottish pale ale would be a fitting tribute to a man that did so much for the festival.

He added: “I first met Brian when I joined Round Table in 2010.

“He had previously been chair in 2007-2008 and really was the life and soul of any event.

“He was hugely active in the local community and in the first few years I knew him, I constantly ran into people who knew him. When my son started Cubs at Linburn, they have old photos on the walls and even as a youngster, Brian was easy to pick out.

“He put in a lot of effort for years helping to organise the Dunfermline Beer Festival and even featured in one year’s entertainment.

“Brian played the drums in a band called Coconut Dog who were one of the bands at the event in 2007.”

This year’s festival includes entertainment from Big Time, Sphere, The Silver Kings and Sid’s Garage.

Doors open from 5pm-1am on Friday, October 6, and from 12-4pm and 7pm-1am on Saturday 7.

Tickets, which are selling fast, are £10 and can be bought online at ticketweb.co.uk and from local businesses, you can find the list on the event’s Facebook page.
