A PATIENT who carried out an assault while being treated in Lynebank Hospital has been hit in the pocket.

Ryan Duke, 21, of Little France House, Edinburgh, was fined and ordered to pay compensation when he appeared for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He had previously admitted that on January 7 at Lynebank Hospital, Dunfermline, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by shouting, acting in an aggressive manner and punching a door.

He also assaulted another patient at the hospital on the same day by repeatedly punching him on the head to his injury.

Depute fiscal Ms Rennie said Duke had been in the day room of a hospital ward and watching television with two other patients.

He appeared agitated and then jumped out of his seat and began punching the door.

He then started to shout at one man who then attempted to leave the room. Before he could do so, Duke punched him repeatedly on the head and face before staff were able to separate them.

Solicitor Roshi Josni said her client had been in the hospital as he had been subject to a compulsory treatment order.

He has since been discharged and his situation had changed very much for the better as he was getting a significant degree of assistance whilst in the community.

"He had been sedated in hospital at the time and was unhappy about that and that is what lead to the commotion," she said. "He accepts it took place and he assaulted the complainer however was unable to detail what caused that physical altercation."

Sheriff Alastair Thornton fined Juke a total of £225 and also ordered him to pay £250 compensation to his victim.
