A MAN who assaulted his partner after she damaged his car was placed on a community payback order.

Dylan Cameron, 20, of Izatt Avenue, had previously admitted that on September 2 at Hillview Crescent in Crossgates, he assaulted his partner by punching her on the head and causing her to fall to the ground to her injury.

Depute fiscal Ms Rennie said Cameron and the woman had been in a relationship for approximately two years. They had been drinking with Cameron's brother and gone outside to his car.

He and his brother sat in the vehicle, however the woman stood outside it and began to shout at her partner before she then started kicking his car.

Cameron got out of the car and punched her once on the face, causing her to fall to the ground.

Solicitor Jonathan Matheson-Dear said there were "substantial mitigating circumstances" for his client.

"Both he and his partner had been drinking to excess and she was behaving aggressively," he told the court. "She was demanding car keys to go off on a drive and he thought she was unfit to drive so declined that request.

"She caused damage to the side panel of the car which he had just been given by his parents. He acted wrongly by punching her."

Mr Matheson-Dear said that the woman still wished to continue the relationship and regretted her involvement.

He added: "She has separately been charged and convicted with causing damage to Mr Cameron's vehicle."

Sheriff Alastair Thornton said it was clear that Cameron needed significant input from the social work department and placed him on a community payback order with a two year supervision requirement.
