EFFORTS to get rid of anti-social behaviour in Dunfermline town centre are continuing, councillors were told this week.

Members of Fife Council’s City of Dunfermline area committee were given an update at their meeting on Tuesday.

Safer Communities area co-ordinator Julie Cargill said: “In one incident, a group of youths carried out a violent unprovoked attack on a member of the public within Tesco.

"Specifically, the areas of most concern include Tesco store at Winterthur Lane and Dunfermline Bus Station.”

She said the action of Safer Communities Officers and police had caused youths to disperse, explaining: “SCOs signposted this issue to colleagues in youth work and upped patrols, providing a reassuring presence, visible deterrent and regular contact with local youths with a view to preventing anti-social behaviour and gathering intelligence. This worked well and is no longer reported as a problem.”

In her report to councillors, she added that one nightly patrol had noticed, while speaking to Tesco security staff, a man leaving the store concealing bottles of wine in his waistband.

“The man then become aggressive and issued verbal and physical threats to the officers. The police apprehended the individual who was put to court the next working day.”
