SCOTLAND'S ice age will be the hot topic for discussion at the latest Royal Scottish Geographical Society talk in Dunfermline next week.

Leading geomorphologist Professor Colin Ballantyne will speak at the event in Dunfermline High School on Wednesday.

Colin’s Inspiring People presentation, The Ice Age in Scotland, will explore the climate changes of the Last Ice Age and the effects of glaciation on Scotland’s remarkable scenery.

He explained: “This talk outlines the causes and consequences of the Ice Age in Scotland, how Scottish scientists played a major role in Ice Age research, and how the record of past glaciation throws light on the rapid climate changes of the recent geological past.

"It also explores how the indirect effects of glaciation have affected sea-level change, landslides and the record of human settlement.”

Colin’s talk – which starts at 7.30pm – is open to all and tickets are available via rsgs.org or at the door. More information can be found at rsgs.org or by calling RSGS HQ on 01738 455050.
