TURNING up drunk at his family's Dunfermline home on Boxing Day proved particularly costly for one man.

Appearing for sentencing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court, Steve Young, 39, had previously admitted that at the property in Whyte Walk on December 26 last year, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause fear or alarm by shouting, swearing and challenging others to fight.

He also resisted and obstructed two police officers in the execution of their duty by repeatedly pulling his arms away and refusing to allow them to apply handcuffs.

Depute fiscal Jane Rennie told the court that the accused "stumbled" into the house at around 8pm.

"He was extremely drunk and his brother had come down the stairs and the accused asked him if he wanted to fight," she said. "He was then shouting and swearing and his mother contacted the police."

Defence solicitor Ian Beatson said his client, of Broad Street, Cowdenbeath, appreciated he should not have gone to the house.

"He decided to go and visit his family but, given the state of his intoxication, his family were not very happy and an argument ensued," he said.

"He has a good relationship with his mother and his brother. He has apologised to them since and they have accepted his apology.

"He accepts his actions were shocking and has been taking some steps in relation to his alcohol misuse."

Sheriff Michael Fletcher fined Young a total of £550.
