PARENTS have been banned from parking close to Carnegie Primary School after fears for pupils’ safety.

A ‘no waiting at any time’ rule is to be put in place at Kellock Avenue where concerns had been raised for kids trying to get to school.

The school’s neighbours were also getting fed up and members of the City of Dunfermline area committee agreed to introduce the measure on the street directly to the south of the school at their meeting on Tuesday.

Fife Council technician engineer Lesley Craig said the issue was highlighted by the school while an update on their travel plan was taking place.

“Double yellow lines were only introduced to the junction because the rest of the road was not finished at the time,” she told councillors. “Children are having trouble crossing the junction so this is to clear the junction to make it safer.”

In November last year, Fife Council revealed parking problems at primary schools in West Fife had fallen with fewer requests for enforcement action outside school gates, with inappropriate parking, speeding and obstruction among the main offences.

In 2015/16, there were 15 visits by the council’s parking team, however, there was only one the following year.

In March 2016, the Press reported a plea from one Carnegie Primary parent, Patricia Noble, who wrote an open letter to Fife Council “begging” for something to be done about the dangers around the school.

She called for action to be taken to protect pupils and asked if it was going to take a child to be hit before something was done.

“This school has had these problems since it opened and five years on, the problems are still there,” she said.

“I am begging you to do something about this, not just for my children but for all the children, staff and parents who attend Carnegie Primary School. Please help keep all of us safe.”
