DINE AT 29 is situated on Dunfermline’s Bruce Street and sits well within its historic surroundings with its rustic design.

It prides itself on being an upbeat restaurant with contemporary Scottish dishes and it certainly delivered with its wide variety of plates on offer.

The restaurant has overhauled its menu recently and invited the Press to its launch.

Although their famous ‘Hot Rock’ dishes are still a main feature of the menu, the owners have increased the size of choices available, following feedback from customers.

Starters to whet the appetite include Venison Skewers with a satay sauce, Brie Wedges served with chilli jam and Haggis Bon Bons – a Scottish treat made up of potato fritter, turnip puree and whisky sauce.

As well as the ‘Hot Rock’ option that includes steaks, other highlights included the Balmoral Chicken with haggis and a whisky cream sauce, Butternut Squash and Sage Risotto and Butcher’s Sausage of the Day served with the traditional mash, gravy and veg.

A selection of burgers are also on offer with The Highlander being a memorable option with the haggis, potato scone and peppercorn sauce combination.

There’s always room for desert and the Sticky Toffee Pudding and Apple & Cinnamon Crumble were particular hits to finish off the night for the Press.

The atmosphere was calm and relaxed and was just the ticket for a midweek meal outing.

The brick walls and rustic decor provide a cosy spot within the heart of Dunfermline.

Costs vary but starters begin at £4.95, mains at £8.95 and puds all come in at £5.95.

The ‘Hot Rock’ offer costs £39 and includes two steaks, two sides each, and drink – a bottle of wine, Prosecco, pitcher of beer, cocktails and soft drink refills.
