STEPHENS have today opened Scotland's first drive-through bakery in their home of Dunfermline.

Now in its 145th year as a business, the family bakers have launched their new venture in Rumblingwell.

André Sarafilovic, managing director, is delighted to finally open their doors and serving hatch after acquiring the site in 2015.

He told the Press: "It’s been a long time coming for us, we’re all very excited.

“I think it re-inforces that Stephens is a forward-thinking company. We're in our 145th year, and while the industry is in decline, we're not.

“I think that’s because we've always been at the forefront for trying new things.

“We were the first to mobilise the fresh-baking of the convenience store by having vans go directly to work places.

“This is the next step of where the world is moving in terms of convenience and speed. We're supplying our regular customers with the quality they’re used to, and staying up-to-date.

“We’re all very proud. It was my wife’s idea many years ago that this is what we should do. We’re excited we got his site and while you never know if things will take off, the reception we’ve had already has been fantastic.

“If it doesn’t work in our heartland of Dunfermline, it’s not going to work anywhere.

“The staff are excited, and we hope the customers will be too.”

Children from Milesmark and McLean Primary School played a key role in the opening.

In a custom-made mustang, with personalised registration plate: BR1 DEE, they were the first to drive-through the new bakery.

However, the Press also got our order in shortly afterwards (video below).
