A TEAM of girls from a Dunfermline dance school have beaten thousands of hopefuls to qualify for the Dance World Cup in Barcelona.

The elite performance group at The Dance Bank on the Elgin Industrial Estate have only been performing together for 18 months but have won countless competitions in the UK and now they are trying their hand further afield!

The girls will be competing for Team Scotland against 5,000 dancers from 47 countries in June and hope to bring plenty of medals home for their country.

Rhona McNab, principle of The Dance Bank, said: “It’s a great privilege and honour to be included in this prestigious dance competition.

“The team sent 10 videos in to the judges and we thought it would be great if just one or two were chosen because it was the first time they’d entered but all 10 were picked. It’s just tremendous if you think about the amount of people that would have applied.

“They’ve done really well in such a short space of time.

“They all work really well together and they’ve been with me since they were little, so it makes me very proud to see them doing so well.”

The group, whose ages range from 10 to 19, are now currently working hard rehearsing with their teacher and choreographer, Lisa McGurk, for the big event this summer.

However, with the huge costs involved, the school is hosting a fundraiser at Dunfermline High School on February 8 where they’ll showcase the World Cup dances for locals.

Tickets are £10 and booking reservations can be made to Info@thedancebank.co.uk or 01383 872 132.
