A LEARNING hub for nursery and school pupils is to be opened up to the wider community after it was opened officially.

Pittencrieff Primary’s ‘Zen Den’ has been the result of a project that aimed to create a calm, quiet space within the school that will also host family learning programmes.

Jillian Murphy, an early years learning officer at the school, said: “At Pittencrieff Primary School, we value the emotional and mental wellbeing of all.

"We appreciate that, on occasions, children and adults need time and support to reflect and feel safe.

“We have been working together to create a calm and quiet space in the school that everyone can use; children, staff, parents and visitors.

"This area will be used for a variety of reasons including time to learn, baby massage and mindfulness activities.

“We already have a number of family learning programmes running and hope to introduce more in the coming months.

"All of the children in the nursery and school are using the space to develop communication, co-operative and mindfulness skills.

“The feedback has been very positive and we will continue to build on the feedback of parents and children to ensure it is a well-used community learning space.”

The school have worked with the Ceramic Cafe in Dunfermline on the project, who contributed a large plate for the room and a prize for a competition to name the hub.
