THERE are plans to build 90 new houses next to Townhill Country Park.
Mactaggart and Mickel Homes, based in Glasgow, want to develop a plot of grassland north of Kent Street in Dunfermline.
The site is just outside Townhill and borders the entrance to the country park and waterski centre.
The firm has submitted a Proposal of Application Notice (PAN) to Fife Council which gives them a 12-week consultation period before they can submit a full planning application.
Ronnie Cowan, of Townhill Community Council, said: “It was knocked back previously due to concerns about coalescence between Dunfermline and Townhill and there were various points made about the number of houses proposed.
“It’s unfortunate that, since the demise of Headwell Community Council, Kent Street and that area is not currently represented by a community council.
“I suppose houses have to be built and as long as it’s done reasonably I can’t see it being a huge issue.”
He added: “They say they won’t build any further north than the power lines but I think there could be issues with the two access roads they’ve proposed.”
“It’d be far better to use the existing road for the waterski centre and put a proper roundabout in there, we could also get rid of the mini islands on the approach to the village.”
