THERE are plans to build 30 new homes on a gap site in Grieve Street in Dunfermline.

It’s a different approach for the landowners who were granted permission for an 80-bed care home on the land in September last year.

James Property Ltd, of Kirkcaldy, now want to erect 16 two-bedroom cottage flats and 14 three-bedroom houses.

If approved, the majority would be two-storey properties but there would be some at three-storeys too.

The proposals submitted to Fife Council include 62 car-parking spaces, landscaping and a new access road.

A planning statement on the firm’s behalf said: “The houses are to be a mix of semi-detached contemporary designed homes and terraced homes with private gardens, with communal areas allocated to the proposed cottage apartments and affordable housing units.”

Eight of the units would be allocated as affordable homes.

The site at 60 Grieve Street was previously occupied by Magnet Kitchens as a showroom and depot but they have new premises in Dunfermline and the buildings were demolished and the land cleared last year.

James Property Ltd’s initial proposals for a three-storey care home with 41 car-parking spaces were approved last year and could still happen.

The planning statement said: “The consent (for the care home) is live and the applicants may utilise the approval, however, this is dependent on market conditions as they may apply.”
