AS much as I can recommend Grill 48 I can’t promise that, like us, you’ll be sharing a table with football royalty like Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Sergio Aguero and Alexis Sanchez.

But you never know, as the latest addition to the Dunfermline restaurant’s menu is proving a real winner and deserves to attract custom from far and wide.

Our illustrious sportsmen often join us when we’re out and about and talk turns to the goals they’ve scored, the games they’ve played and, erm, how tall they are.

My five-year-old son is into Top Trumps just now and the latest favourite – we’ve previously traded the likes of a great white shark, a diplodocus and Cars 3 characters between the knives and forks – is a world football version.

That whiles away the time between ordering and eating, there’s still time for heated debate between mouthfuls, but service was brisk and we weren’t kept waiting long. His mum still had some cards left.

From previous visits, I knew Grill 48 offered a range of tasty traditional and seasonal dishes.

You can agonise between burgers, 28-day matured steaks, gluten free and slimmer friendly fare, as well as classics like fish and chips and steak pie, for a good while, believe me.

And now they’ve added a G48 Skewer Deal to the mix. You can choose from chicken, beef or halloumi cheese kebab with red onion, peppers and mushrooms, with a choice of sauce and side order, served on an traditional Espetada stand.

Buy two of them, with two sauces, two sides and a bottle of house wine (or soft drink refill) and it’ll set you back just £25. Result.

Linn Williamson, who owns and runs Grill 48, says it’s already proving popular and you can tell the business is a real labour of love.

She’s been in the hospitality industry since she was 16 and pledged to open her own restaurant by the time she was 30 – it opened in May 2011, exactly a month after her birthday.

It’s obviously paying off as, together with her hard-working and pleasant staff, they’ve won a Visit Scotland award, Grill 48 is a World Host recognised business and in 2016 it won Restaurant of the Year at the Fife Retail Business Awards.

We were certainly impressed. For kick-off there was a starter of haggis nachos, an inspired choice although the definitions of ‘sharing’ and ‘stealing from my plate’ obviously need looked at in my family, and then I went for the chicken skewers.

I like my food vertical and I wasn’t let down. The flavours were there and paired with their crispy chips, it’s sure to be a crowd pleaser.

My son had fish and chips from the kids menu, there was a good selection for picky eaters, and he declared them ‘lovely’ while my wife selected the chicken burger.

There were clean plates all round.

If you’ve room, it’s hard to resist the desserts with fans favourite, sticky toffee pudding, joining the likes of a banoffee sundae and chilli and chocolate tart in the line-up.

They also serve Nelson’s of Culross ice cream, one of a number of local suppliers, which is always a delight. At full-time it was, almost, the perfect meal.

The only downside was I lost my top trump, Lionel Messi, as (like Kenny Dalglish in my childhood days of playing the game) at a measly 170cm he’s too damn small. Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is 199cm tall and didn’t I hear all about it. Pesky Belgian.
