VILE racist graffiti was scrawled across a resident's door in Dunfermline last week.

The offensive material was written between 7.30-10.30pm on April 4 at an address on Wilson Close.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and are treating the incident as a hate crime.

Conservative councillor Alan Craig said: "This is the first time I've heard of anything like that in Dunfermline, so it came as a bit of a surprise.

"It's concerning that this sort of thing is happening here and it's ridiculous that people feel the need to that.

"Why do they want to do it? What satisfaction do they get?

"It just seems crazy to me. Hopefully, it's the last we see of such behaviour."

The door targeted in the latest incident has been replaced but the graffiti is understood to have included racist words and symbols.

Labour councillor Garry Haldane said: "No-one should be targeted because of their race or religion.

"It's totally out of order.

"It's completely disgraceful and they are cowards.

"This sort of thing is done by ignorant people who do not understand.

"They have no idea how this might affect someone. Some might take it in their stride but others might be damaged psychologically."

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police are eager to trace those responsible as soon as possible and would ask that anyone, particularly those who were in the area on the evening of Wednesday, April 4 and saw anything suspicious to get in touch."

Anyone with information should call 101 or Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
