A KINGLASSIE man was offered a place to stay in Dunfermline by a friend when heavy snow prevented him from getting back home.

However, Liam Mayers got so drunk that he became an unwelcome house guest and the police were called.

Mayers then threw a can, hitting an officer, and struggled as he was arrested and removed from the flat.

The incident resulted in Mayers, 27, of Main Street, Kinglassie, appearing at Dunfermline Sheriff Court.

He admitted that on March 2, at Broomhead Drive, Dunfermline, he assaulted a policeman in the execution of his duty by throwing a can which hit him and then kicked him on the body.

He also admitted that he struggled violently with two officers and lashed out with his legs and body.

Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said police were called to an address at the flats at 8.45pm and found Mayers heavily under the influence of alcohol.

“He put his hands together and said: ‘Just arrest me now’,” added the depute.

A female friend had let him stay with her because of the weather conditions but because of his intoxication she wanted him to leave.

Defence solicitor Alexander Flett said: “He’s someone who’s not been in trouble before and is very remorseful for what he did.

“Because of the weather, he couldn’t get back home. He was to stay with a friend and they were both consuming alcohol. That’s the extent of what he remembers about it.”

He added that his client suffers from mild cerebral palsy and works in a supermarket.

Sheriff Alison McKay fined Mayers £400.
