A DUNFERMLINE drug addict has been jailed for going on a crime spree which included breaking into a house and mounting a 'Supermarket Sweep-style' raid on Tesco

Jason Mooney, 25, of Gilfillan Road, was jailed for 21 months at Dunfermline Sheriff Court for a long list of offences which he previously admitted.

These included breaking into a man’s home and stealing a variety of possessions.

He drew suspicion when he returned to his hostel carrying a bow and arrow.

On August 6, Mooney stole DVDs from Asda St Leonard's.

On August 14, at the Co-op, Shamrock Street, he stole foodstuffs.

On August 24, he broke into a house in Bridge Street and stole medication, an ornament, a quantity of musical instruments, a bow, a quantity of arrows, tools and money.

On October 6, at Asda Halbeath, he stole seven DVDs.

On November 9, at Asda St Leonard's, he stole a bluetooth speaker.

He also breached a bail condition not to enter that store.

Depute fiscal Sarah Lumsden said that a neighbour spotted that the door of the housebreaking victim appeared to have been forced in. The stolen musical instruments included cow-bells.

Later that day, police received information that Mooney had been seen at the James Bank Hostel carrying a bow and arrows as well as a bag of coins which he dropped on the floor.

Police searched his room and found the stolen items.

Mooney also attempted a supermarket sweep-style raid at Tesco, by gathering goods worth £430 and trying to leave without paying.

His efforts at stealing were described as “amateurish” by his own solicitor.

He admitted that on January 8, at Tesco, Turnstone Road, Dunfermline, he stole a quantity of DVDs and electrical items.

Mooney also admitted that between April 16-17, he was found in the curtilage of New Blossoms, Chalmers Street, without lawful consent whereby it could be reasonably inferred he intended to commit theft.

He further admitted that on April 17, at Dunfermline police station, he was in possession of a knife.

Sheriff Charles MacNair jailed Mooney for 16 months and a further 160 days.
