UNSIGHTLY bins spoiling the look of Dunfermline’s historic quarter are to be hidden from view – in a free standing steel cage.
Visitors and local residents have long complained about large rubbish containers outside the 12th-century Dunfermline Abbey and Fife Council have come up with a solution.
They’ve received permission for a freestanding bin store in Kirkgate, between the category A-listed City Chambers and the Old Inn pub, with new gates and railings.
A council report said, “It is evident that the site is not a particularly well used area and given its position relative to the City Chambers building relatively discrete in nature.” Historic Scotland said they were happy with the plans – adding that the gates and railings should be black.
