A FAMILY escaped a porch fire thought to have started by the beaming light of the sun through a window at a home in Blair Drive this afternoon (Thursday). Fire services and police were called to the scene at 12:15pm after receiving the call from the family who had managed to flee the ablaze house. Ricky Stroud, watch manager at Dunfermline Fire Station, said, "The fire started on the porch and spread through to the kitchen of the semi-detached dwelling.

"The porch is badly damaged. Smoke detector in the house alarmed everyone in the house to get out, they then called fire services.

"I have put it down the cause to the heat of the sun coming through the double-glazing windows shining into the porch.

"A main jet and a hose reel jet were called to the scene. Two appliances from Dunfermline."
