ALTHOUGH the sun did not, the community spirit and sense of enjoyment certainly shone through at the Halbeath Gala and Sports Day which took place on Saturday.

The turnout at the gala was still high, despite the rain, and the families and children who came participated in a number of fun activities, including the popular pony rides and five-a-side football, with only a few events cancelled due to the weather.

There were stalls and a coffee shop available but perhaps the main event was the hill race around the village, which was stewarded by the McDonalds staff from Fife Leisure Park and culminated with a presentation of medals.

Spokeswoman Sheila Chadfield said of the day, “It was disappointing with the rain but we still had a big turnout and lots of events still on so everyone was happy!” The gala was organised by the Halbeath Residents and Tenants Association and was the fifth year it has been held.
