DUNFERMLINE and West Fife community groups are set to receive a cash boost of more than £28,000 from Fife Council after their funding applications were approved.

The West Fife Area Common Good Fund green-lighted requests from seven groups, which had asked for financial assistance with projects ranging from galas to artwork.

Central Dunfermline Community Council received £8000 to help with improved lighting in Dunfermline Public Park.

The cash will go towards the costs of lights at the bandstand, Middle Walk and the Donald Fountain, as well as LED wrapping for 10 trees at the station entrance.

And the refurbished Glen Pavilion in Pittencrieff Park is set to look even better after £8579 was awarded for new curtains.

Dunfermline Boxing Club, which was forced to close last year due to flood damage, received £2246 for new equipment.

Dunfermline Delivers, the city’s business improvement district company, got £1400 to help pay for a metalwork sculpture of a spider and web for its entry in Gardening Scotland.

The artwork will be on show at the Dunfermline Garden and will be returned to the Kingdom and displayed within the city.

Townhill received a double boost, with the gala committee awarded £1000 and a further £4950 will go towards the costs of necessary drainage work in Townhill Wood.

Inverkeithing’s Lammas Fair was given £2111 for road diversions during the historic fair, which sees traders set up shop on the High Street and the traditional Lammas Races run on Hope Street.

An application from Culross Community Council for £20,000 towards a new play area on the village green was deferred.

Councillors felt the money was not needed right now as it was a long-term project.

Officers will now take it back to the community council and also find out about other applications submitted to other funding bodies.
