UNCERTAINTY surrounds proposals for a new Morrisons supermarket on the site of Dunfermline’s police station after Halfords relocated this week.

Halfords, now situated at the Halbeath Retail Park, opened its doors at its new premises yesterday (Wednesday).

The site change for the retailer coincides with the plans laid out earlier this year by Carnegie Regeneration Ltd for the new supermarket giant.

Carnegie Regeneration Ltd told the Press in February that Halfords would have to move to make way for a Morrisons and that B&Q could relocate from the neighbouring retail park as part of their overall plans.

However, the plans were soon shot down by Police Scotland who said the chance of the land becoming available in the next few years was remote.

Morrisons had announced plans of striking a deal with developers to buy the station site for £4.1million but have given no further information about their intentions.

Dunfermline’s MP Thomas Docherty said the Morrisons plans were a “dead duck” because the police were not moving.

He added it was vital that B&Q was not lost to Dunfermline and therefore discussions with the developers to identify other appropriate alternative sites for a new supermarket were ongoing.

Morrisons and Carnegie Regeneration Ltd were unavailable for comment before the Press deadline.
