STAFF, parents and pupils alike were delighted after Masterton Primary School in Duloch received a glowing report from Education Scotland.

The inspection and review was aimed at finding out how well the children were learning and achieving and how well the school was supporting children to do their best.

In the report, the key strengths of the school were said to be “confident, articulate children who are motivated to learn” and “consistently high standards of education and teaching”. The report also praised the school’s “positive, caring” ethos and the consistent efforts of the headteacher and staff to improve the school.

“In all classes, children are well behaved, engaged and motivated as they learn,” the report stated. “They benefit from positive relationships with their teachers and peers. There is a strong sense of community with in the school.” Headteacher Stephen Humphries was pleased with the feedback the school received. “I am quite satisfied with the outcome of the inspection,” he said. “And I’m particularly happy that the efforts of the children have been recognised, as well as the commitment of the staff to improve teaching and learning.

“Within the report there are areas to move forward which have been identified, and there is recognition of what we are doing. We have already started working on the next steps. Overall, I’m quite satisfied with it.” Masterton Primary School will now continue to work with staff and Fife Council to further improve the school, developing the curriculum with a clearer focus on skills development across all curriculum areas and continuing to improve approaches to assessing, monitoring and tracking children’s achievements.

Education Scotland confirmed in their report that they were “satisfied with the overall quality of provision” and were “confident that the school’s self-evaluation processes are leading to improvements”. As a result, they will not be making any further visits in connection with this inspection.
