A JACK VETTRIANO painting given to a Dunfermline auction as a thank-you was sold for £6000 on Monday.

‘Little Flower Girl’, one of the painter’s early works signed under his birth name, Jack Hoggan, was snapped up at J &P Auctions in Castleblair Lane by an anonymous buyer.

The collector, who does not wish to be named, is said to have a number of the artist’s paintings.

Last week, the Press was the first to bring you the story of the painting, a gift from the renowned Fife painter to Rosslyn Fine Arts in Methil who then handed it in to J & P Auctions, who auctioned it as part of a 700-lot auction on Monday.

Auctioneer William Heggie (25) told the Press, “We are over the moon that the painting sold for £6000.

“At one point I was nervous that it wasn’t going to sell but once the guy put his hand up it was a big relief!

“It was just a fantastic auction.

“The Jack Hoggan painting is the best item we have had come through the doors.

“We had a phone call about the painting on Saturday from the buyer and he had heard that it was coming up for auction through a regular of ours.

“As a whole the sale was fantastic.

“We were collecting antiques for it for around three months and it did very well.

“We would like to thank everyone who put items in the auction because if it wasn’t for the customers it wouldn’t be possible.” J & P Auctions is a family-run business by brothers William, Paul and Johnathan Heggie and their mum, Elizabeth Heggie.
