STAFF at Abbot House said it was like a “kick in the teeth” to find that nearly £400 was stolen from the charity’s café at the start of the month.

Devon McHugh, director at Abbot House told the Press, “We are so sad about the fact someone would steal from us.

“It is a huge shame because we have had a great couple of weeks celebrating our birthday, winning a gold business diversity award for Fife and a certified museum award.

“We are a charity and our staff are mostly volunteers so it is really upsetting that someone would take from us.

“We depend on the money from the café to pay for our educational programmes that we run and also to keep the place going.

“As a director it is so frustrating.

“Hopefully other businesses will be very aware and be extra careful now this has happened.

“It is real rough what has happened – I just hope the person is caught.” The police have described the theft from the museum and visitor attraction as a “despicable” crime.

Police are urging anyone with information surrounding the theft to contact 101.
