KIDS FROM Carnegie Primary School were given a treat when Pars players joined them for the launch of a healthy-eating initiative at Harvester in Dunfermline.

The lunchtime event was held last week at the restaurant branch in Halbeath retail park, with the idea behind the scheme being to get the children trying things they’d never tasted before and telling them the importance of getting their five-a-day.

Pars stars Michael Moffat and Gozie Ugwu joined the Primary 2/3 pupils for a tour of the kitchen and a blindfold taste-test at the salad bar. The children then took part in a colouring-in competition where they designed their own fruit and vegetable characters, with Moffat and Ugwu picking the winners. After being treated to lunch, the kids were then given a goody bag with Harvester gifts to take away with them.

“It went really well,” said Harvester’s Leanne Scally. “The kids had a great time and the players were good with them, I was really impressed! The kids all loved it and I got an email from the school saying they wanted to book all of their classes in for a session.” Wendy Anthony, depute headteacher at Carnegie Primary, said, “Primary 2/3 enjoyed taking part in a healthy eating workshop at the Harvester. We have planned visits for other classes across the school to consolidate healthy and wellbeing teaching and learning that takes place in class. The children love taking part in exciting events in the local community.” The sessions are all about getting people invested in healthier eating and Leanne and the Harvester team are inviting people to get in touch with the restuarant to book one of the free sessions.

“We do our best to accommodate groups in the evenings as well as schools in the day and we adapt the sessions for age too,” she said. “Every session is different and we want to raise interest for groups and schools to come along.”
